1 Maccabees 11:46-48

⁴⁶ However, the king took refuge in the palace, while the people seized control of the main streets of the city and began to fight. ⁴⁷ The king then summoned the Jews to come to his aid. They immediately rallied around him and then spread out through the city. On that day they killed about one hundred thousand of its inhabitants, ⁴⁸ after which they set fire to the city and seized a great amount of booty. Thus they saved the life of the king.
